The Oklahoma quarterback, who on Saturday is highly expected to take home college football’s biggest individual prize, the Heisman Trophy, won a trio of major awards Thursday night at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Atlanta.
Mayfield won the Walter Camp Award and the Maxwell Award, both of which go to the player of the year in college football, and the Davey O’Brien Award, which is conferred upon the most outstanding quarterback. The Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year was also named to the Walter Camp All-America Team, along with two of his teammates.
