West Virginia tried the old hook-and-lateral play to end the first half Saturday in Norman, and it failed. Miserably. The Mountaineers fumbled, the Sooners recovered at the WVU 33-yard line and Lincoln Riley sent out Austin Seibert to kick a 51-yard field goal. Seibert nailed it, and suddenly, the Sooners have another offensive weapon.
Seibert’s field-goal kicking has not always been pristine. Last season, as a junior, Seibert made 11 of 16 field goals. But he tried only three kicks of at least 40 yards and missed them all.
As a freshman, Seibert made his first four field goals in the 40s but missed a 47-yarder against in the Bedlam season-finale.
