MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Alabama co-defensive coordinator Pete Golding is a fast riser in the coaching ranks and has been rumored to be a potential replacement for ex-Oklahoma DC Mike Stoops.
The link makes sense on a number of levels. Golding, 34, has recruiting ties to Texas after spending two years with UTSA as a defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach.
He would also stand to earn a significant raise with the Sooners. Golding is making $650,000 this season and is not the Tide’s primary play-caller (that role belongs to Tosh Lupoi). Before parting ways with the Sooners, Stoops was earning $950,000.
