3-point stance: Taking the wrong path on Baker Mayfield

1. At the end of the day, Texas Tech was within its rights not to release walk-on quarterback Baker Mayfield when he left to walk on at Oklahoma. And the Big 12 faculty athletic reps were within their rights to deny Mayfield a waiver before this academic year began. That’s what the rules are, even for a walk-on who paid his own way. But at what cost? I don’t mean to Mayfield. That’s pretty obvious. He won’t get a fourth year of eligibility. But Texas Tech looks petty, and so does the conference. Within the rules or no, no one ever goes wrong doing the honorable thing.
