It came down to two Kansas stars, but two-way standout Udoka Azubuike notched the Big 12 Player of the Year honors in a vote of USA TODAY Network sportswriters covering the league.
Azubuike captured four Player of the year votes, while his point guard, Devon Dotson, picked up three votes from our panel. The panel was made up of seven college basketball beat writers from Gannett newspapers in the Big 12's footprint.
A 7-foot, 280-pound senior, Azubuike averages 13.7 points, but he made his presence especially felt defensively (2.6 blocks and 10.5 rebounds a game).
Scott Drew edged Kansas coach Bill Self for the Big 12's Coach of the Year honors after leading Baylor to a dominant regular season.
