Welcome back to another edition of our 2019 Countdown to Kickoff! With 40 days left to go before the Oklahoma Sooners get the upcoming college football season underway, I want to talk about Baker Mayfield’s school record of 40 consecutive games passing for a touchdown.
The two-time walk-on from Lake Travis High School battled his way from the bottom to earn Oklahoma’s starting QB position in 2015. In that season opener against Akron, Mayfield found Dede Westbrook for a 29-yard touchdown, and so began this record-setting streak.
What’s even more amazing than him throwing for a score in all 40 games of his Sooner career is that he actually threw for at least two touchdowns in all but two contests (2015 losses to Texas and Clemson).
