Oklahoma was not suppose to defeat Florida State in the 2001 Orange Bowl. They were 11 point underdogs and were going up against the latest Heisman Trophy Winner at the time, quarterback Chris Weinke. But the Sooners outstanding defense led by Orange Bowl MVP Torrance Marshall sealed their 7th national championship with a 13-2 victory.
The Florida State offense was shutout with their only points coming from a safety on a special teams play late in the fourth. Their high powered offense was suppose to pass at will against the Sooners, but Weinke ended up throwing more incomplete passes than complete ones.
