1. Twice a walk-on
It's well known by now, but Mayfield played in eight games as a walk-on true freshman at Texas Tech in 2013. He left the program after one season -- citing "miscommunication" with coach Kliff Kingsbury -- and did not play in the Red Raiders' bowl game that year.
The ensuing saga was, well, a little messy. He then walked on at Oklahoma and lost a year of eligibility before eventually winning the starting job.
