For the second straight year, the Oklahoma Sooners knocked off the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the regular season finale to win the Big 12 title. This time, Oklahoma needed a strong second-half surge to pull off the 38-20 victory.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield led the way with 288 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Samaje Perine gave the Sooners a dominant threat on the ground with 230 yards and a touchdown on 36 carries.
After a slow first quarter, the Sooners took a 7-3 lead at the start of the second quarter with an impressive 69-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield to star wideout Dede Westbrook:
Westbrook finished the game with 111 yards and a touchdown on four catches, but left the game with an apparent head injury. Oklahoma State quickly responded to that touchdown with a few scores of their own, and held a 17-10 lead with 1:28 remaining in the first half. That was the last time they would be in front.
Mayfield led the Sooners all the way down the field in just one minute, culminating in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield to Geno Lewis. That was the start of 21 unanswered points scored by Oklahoma, giving them a commanding 31-17 advantage. Oklahoma State managed a field goal at the end of the third quarter, but the Sooners put the game away on this 79-yard touchdown run by Joe Mixon:

Mixon finished the game with 99 yards to go along with that touchdown. The win gives Oklahoma their 10th Big 12 championship under head coach Bob Stoops which is one more than the amount of home losses (nine) they have during Stoops' tenure.
The win pushes Oklahoma to 10-2 on the season, and caps a perfect 9-0 season in Big 12 play. It also keeps Oklahoma on the very fringe of the College Football Playoff conversation, but clinches a berth in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Oklahoma State drops to 9-3 with the loss, and will also likely miss out on a New Year's Six bowl. If they do, the Cowboys will end up in either the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Valero Alamo Bowl or Russell Athletic Bowl.
