The Oklahoma Sooners have every expectation of winning the Big 12 and returning to the College Football Playoff this season, but for that to happen, they're going to need some lesser-known players to step up and become stars. Here are three players who could have breakout seasons for the Sooners in 2016:
WR Geno Lewis
Lewis transferred from Penn State after falling out of favor following a promising 2014 season, but he could be an impact player for Oklahoma. The Sooners are without Sterling Shepard, who was a second round pick in the NFL Draft. Baker Mayfield needs a new No. 1 target, and it could very well be Lewis. He could have the type of impact former PSU WR Justin Brown did when he transferred to OU in 2012.
WR Michiah Quick
Receiver is obviously a big question mark for the Sooners after Sterling Shepard's departure for the NFL, and Quick has been another guy who has played exceptionally well in the spring. Inside receivers coach Cale Gundy said Quick was the "most consistent" receiver during the spring and should have a big role in the offense.
LB Caleb Kelly
The last five-star signing of National Signing Day could be a game-changer for the Sooners. Kelly combination of athleticism and explosiveness could make up for some of Oklahoma's losses on the defensive side of the ball. He may not start from day one because of his late start, but once the coaching staff feels comfortable with his understanding of the defense, he may not come of the field.
