Who will have a breakout season for the Oklahoma Sooners football team in 2018? There are a lot of Oklahoma rumors swirling around the Sooners with them losing Heisman trophy winning quarterback Baker Mayfield. If Oklahoma wants to continue their success they sustained in 2017 and make it back to the playoffs, they will need some of their key players to step up. Here are three players that could have a breakout season for the Sooners in 2018:
Kyler Murray, QB
Baker Mayfield is off to the NFL and Murray has big shoes to fill. Murray didn't get a ton of playing time last year but when he did he was tremendous. He passed the ball 21 times and completed 18 of his passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns. When you combine his ability to pass with his freakish athletic ability it's easy to see why he is a 2018 breakout candidate.
Parnell Motley, CB
Motley is a year older and with another year under his belt with the Sooner's defense, this will be the year he truly shines. Last season he racked up 63 tackles with two interceptions and will be looked to be the cornerstone of the Sooners secondary. The Big 12 is a pass happy conference and this will be the year Motley starts shutting down some of those offenses.
Kenneth Murray, LB
Murray is a well-built linebacker at 6-foot-2, 243 pounds who can be used in multiple ways on defense. Look for Murray to have a big role for the Sooners with the status of LB Curtis Bolton in question with him recovering from an ankle injury that ended his 2017 season. Murray will get his time to shine and will punish anyone who crosses his path.
