The Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Bob Stoops have added an elite recruit to their Class of 2016 haul, as four-star Euless (TX) Trinity defensive tackle Chris Daniels announced his commitment to the Sooners at his 18th birthday party on Friday night -- a huge get for a Sooners program that currently has the #34 ranked class in the nation.
“Man, I love OU, man,” Daniels said earlier this month. “There are a lot of guys from the 2016 class that were there and we were just talking about everything, and we all feel we could really change college football if we all stuck together and all fit at OU. OU is a good place heading in the right direction because of the relationship not only with the coaches, but because of the players there are really good, too. The coaches at OU will push us and make us all better. They want to win and we want to win and I feel like we can change college football if we all went to OU.”
Daniels chose the Sooners over fellow finalists Texas A&M, Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio State. Texas attempted to close in on him late with an offer on Tuesday, but it was too late in the process for the Longhorns to secure a pledge from the in-state standout.
Oklahoma has been all in on Daniels for quite some time now -- a fact which made Daniels feel wanted by the OU coaching staff.
“All the coaches and even the players there were telling me how much they wanted me there,” said Daniels. “Charles Tapper is a senior, but he was telling me that he wanted me to come to OU because he felt that Coach (Diron) Reynolds and the OU coaches could develop me better at OU than any other school could develop me. I am really considering OU because not only do I want to be there, but they really want me there. They want to make me a better person and a better player.”
Ranked as the #19 defensive tackle and #170 overall player in the Class of 2016 per 247Sports' Composite Rankings system, Daniels holds 28 offers in total. His took his last official visit prior to the dead period on November 20th when he took a trip to Norman to visit the Sooners.
