The #16 Oklahoma Sooners hope to have two major offensive weapons back from injury in time for Saturday's crucial Big 12 showdown with the #10 Baylor Bears.
Shepard caught a 46-yard pass in the Sooners' 55-14 victory over Iowa State, yet the senior was sidelined for the rest of the game with a pulled groin. Head coach Bob Stoops remains optimistic that he will have rested it enough to be a go against the Bears.
"It appeared to be pretty minor (Sunday),” Stoops told ESPN.com, via NBC's College Football Talk. “The best way I’d say now is we’re optimistic that it will heal enough that he’ll be full speed by the end of the week.”
The Sooner could also get RB Keith Ford (leg) back for the first time since September 13th against Tennessee. OU coaches had hoped he would be a go against Iowa State, but he didn't quite feel ready to go in pre-game warmups.
“He was close Saturday,” Stoops said. “When you’ve got to make those sudden cuts and all … if they’re not at 100 percent, it’s not gonna work."
"We didn’t feel he was 100 percent.”
