Oklahoma vs. Tulsa Preview and Prediction

The Oklahoma Sooners put up a strong showing to open the season last week, defeating Louisiana Tech 48-16.

Tulsa came out on top against Tulane, 38-31, setting up a matchup of two teams looking to get off to a quick 2-0 start this season.

Records:

Tulsa: 1-0

Oklahoma: 1-0

Last Meeting: Oklahoma won 51-20 (2013)

Key Stat: Oklahoma leads the all-time series matchup over Tulsa 18-7-1, with an average score of 30-12.

Tulsa Outlook: The Golden Hurricane offense came out on fire against Tulane, passing for 438 yards in the victory - a mark that put them at 5th most passing yards after week 1.

Sophomore receiver Keevan Lucas had a huge night, catching 13 passes for a whopping 233 yards and three touchdowns.

Oklahoma Outlook: The Sooners were led by a strong performance from quarterback Trevor Knight, whose 253 yards and a score helped set the pace for the offense.

Running backs Samaje Perine (77 yards, one touchdown) and Keith Ford (51 yards, two touchdowns) found success on the ground, establishing dominance against the LA Tech front seven.

What to watch for: Tulsa will have to come up with another huge passing performance from quarterback Dane Evans if the offense has any chance of keeping pace with the Sooners. With a step up in competition, repeating that feat may prove difficult.

Oklahoma will look for another balanced attack offensively - they posted 253 passing yards and 183 rushing yards last week - to get in rhythm against Tulsa.

Knight was not eased into action, as his 34 pass attempts attest to. Expect that trend to continue as the Sooners try to put up points early and often.

Prediction:

Oklahoma - 42, Tulsa - 17

Despite Tulsa's strong showing last week, the Sooners present a much stronger challenge in this matchup. Oklahoma should not have a problem posting their second straight 40 point performance to start the season.
