Five-star 2016 Nacodoches (Tx.) safety Brandon Jones is widely considered one of the top 20 players in the Class of 2016 along with the #1 safety in the pool. Now, it appears the Oklahoma Sooners will have a chance to woo Jones to Norman during an on-campus visit sometime in the near future.
“I released my top 10 in December and they were on that list,” Jones said, via 247Sports. “Coach (Kerry) Cooks came in a couple days ago just to see me, but I didn’t get to talk to him because of the NCAA rules. I called him the other day trying to set up a visit this summer because OU is only about four hours from my home. So I am trying to set up a visit with my mom or one of my friends to see the campus. Coach Cooks watched me work out and he talked to my coaches, and we have a good relationship and I look forward to talking to him more.”
Back in December, Jones released a top ten consisting of OU, Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, USC, Florida State and Ohio State. However, that list is fluid and changing as the days go on.
“When I released that top 10 that was based on schools that had offered me at that time, but recently Oregon offered and I am really interested in them," Jones said. "That really changed things because they have been one of my favorite teams for a while. Also, Auburn was late to offer, but they would easily fall into my top 10 as well. I hope I have a top six by the end of the summer or school year and then take my visits."
“I know a lot of people think I am leaning towards Texas A&M or this school or that school and I am really open right now," Jones added. "A&M was my first offer and they are one of the closest schools from my home. They are only two hours away, and I am able to get there a lot whenever I want to really. Just being from Texas, I have to keep those schools in mind because I know those two schools (UT included) are the two schools that would be easy for my family to come and watch me play. It doesn’t matter to me if I stay close to home or leave, I just want to go to the best school for me and where I will enjoy playing for the next four years."
