The Oklahoma Sooners didn't ask much out of freshman starting quarterback Cody Thomas in his second start replacing injured signal caller Trevor Knight.
As Ryan Gerbosi of the Dallas Morning News points out, Thomas' main job during the team's 44-7 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks was to repeatedly feed the ball to running back Samaje Perine on his record day:
In his second start, Thomas was really great at handing the ball off. It was all he really needed to do, and he did it well. It was a pretty low-key day for the freshman from Colleyville, as the Sooners didn’t try to force things through the air as much as they did in the first half against Texas Tech.
When he did have to throw, it wasn’t too pretty. He completed just three passes on 13 tries. The best part of Thomas’ game continues to be his surprising athleticism. He ran for 21 yards on three carries and broke a long one in the second half that came back on a hold.
Perine got his 427 yards on 34 carries, while Thomas did his best to manage the game with a limited amount of throws. All in all, it worked perfectly.
