The Oklahoma Sooners have never played in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. At this point, it doesn't appear they'll make their first appearance during this coming postseason.
As Barry Tramel of NewsOK.com observes, "after Kansas State’s victory at West Virginia on Thursday night, the Wildcats seem the likely choice to play in San Antonio. The Alamo Bowl has first pick among Big 12 teams, after the major bowls are settled. TCU and Baylor are in position to make a major bowl, if not the College Football Playoff committee."
The Wildcats' win on Thursday improved their record to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma is 7-3, with just a 4-3 record in-conference.
Add in the Wildcats' victory over the Sooners this year, and it's likely that the Sooners will have to go bowling elsewhere.
In spite of the raw numbers, Alamo Bowl CEO Derrick Fox says Oklahoma is still an option.
“Is Oklahoma in consideration as well? Absolutely, especially if they win out,” Fox said, via Tramel's article on Friday. “How they finish out the next couple of games will obviously dictate a lot.”
