Oklahoma came out and took care of business against the Kansas Jayhawks from the start, but that wasn't the story of the game.
Freshman running back Samaje Perine broke Melvin Gordon's week-old FBS rushing record with 427 yards, and scored five TD's to lead the Sooners past KU on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma RB Samaje Perine Breaks FBS Single Game Rushing Record
Turning Point:
Oklahoma had dominated the first half, but they didn't fully put the game away until their first play of the third quarter when Perine ran for a 66-yard touchdown. The game suddenly then turned away from being a game as everyone focused on Perine chasing the record.
Key Stat:
427 rushing yards, an FBS record. That shows how much Oklahoma was able to dominate the game. They finished with 510 yards on the the ground as a team, making up for the Sooners' 39 passing yards in heavy rain all day long.
Oklahoma MVP:
Perine gets the award, but Oklahoma's offensive line was a big reason for his success. They opened up gaping holes all game long and allowed Perine to get 10-15 yards down the field before he would even get touched.
Kansas MVP:
Safety Cassius Sendish scored the Jayhawks' only touchdown of the game, picking up a fumble by Oklahoma's Keith Ford and running it into the end zone.
What’s Next?
Oklahoma has a week off before facing rival Oklahoma State to close the regular season, while Kansas will end their season next weekend against Kansas State.
