At halftime of Fox Sports 1's telecast of Saturday's West Virginia/Texas matchup, former Colorado QB and current NCAA analyst Joel Klatt blasted the Stoops brothers for their defensive gameplan in the Oklahoma Sooners' 48-14 loss to the Baylor Bears.
“I just thought it was a terrible gameplan by Bob and Mike Stoops defensively,” said Klatt, a former Colorado quarterback. “Bryce Petty had all day to throw — no pressure. And there was no pressure being put on the wide receivers either. I think 90 percent of the high school quarterbacks in this country could have gone out and completed 50 percent of their passes on Oklahoma today. There were no defenders anyway near the wide receivers.”
Baylor exploited the Oklahoma secondary all day, running through the open spaces that seemed to be available on nearly every play while catching passes at will.
While Klatt's analysis was seemingly bombastic for effect, the fact remains that the Sooners' secondary will need to look in the mirror and adjust to what they see after a dismal day in Norman.
