The Oklahoma City Thunder pulled off the biggest upset of the NBA Playoffs so far, eliminating the San Antonio Spurs with the 113-99 win in Game 6 after nearly losing a huge lead.
The Spurs were able to say even with Oklahoma City during most of the first quarter - then the Thunder went on a massive 42-12 run over the last 16 minutes of the first half to take a 55-31 lead at the break, turning this into a blowout. Well, so it seemed.
After trailing by as many as 28 points in the second half, San Antonio sported a furious rally in the fourth quarter with a 25-8 run to cut the deficit to 11. However, that's as close as they would get.
Oklahoma City was led by 37 points and nine rebounds from Kevin Durant, but it was a total team effort. Russell Westbrook had 28 points and 12 assists, while Steven Adams had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Andre Roberson also surprisingly chipped in 14 points.
Kawhi Leonard's 22 points led the Spurs, who also got 18 points and 14 rebounds from LaMarcus Aldridge. However, Tim Duncan (19 points) was the only other player who scored in double figures. This game could mark the end of the careers for Duncan and Manu Ginobili, who have been contemplating retirement.
The Spurs also tie the NBA mark for most regular season wins (67) without reaching the conference finals with the loss.
OKC will face the defending champion Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. The Warriors won all three regular season meetings between the two teams this year.
