The Oklahoma City Thunder started hot and never looked back in a 108-70 home blowout of the Dallas Mavericks to open their first-round NBA playoff series.
Russell Westbrook finished with a team-high 24 points and 11 assists, while Kevin Durant pitched in 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Big men Serge Ibaka (17 pts, 9 reb, 3 blk) and Enes Kanter (16 pts, 13 reb) also had terrific showings for the Thunder, who reminded the rest of the Western Conference just how dominant they can be on Saturday.
The only Mavericks player in double figures was Dirk Nowitzki, who tallied 18 points and four boards in 25 minutes. Dallas shot less just 30 percent from the field as a team, and lost starting guard J.J. Barea to a strained groin in the first half. The 38-point loss was the second-worst defeat in the franchise's postseason history.
The Thunder defense locked down the Mavs in the first quarter, holding them to just 11 points. They continued the onslaught in the second period, outscoring Dallas 59-33 heading into the half before putting the game out of reach in the third quarter.
Game 2 of the Thunder-Mavericks series is on Monday at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in OKC. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET.
