Jason Kidd, who has spent almost a quarter century in the NBA, stood in the Chesapeake Arena hallway Tuesday night talking about the guy who soon would try to not only take his lunch money, but his place on a highly esteemed list.
So I asked Kidd about playing against a young Russell Westbrook.
“He's still young, right?” he asked. Twenty- eight, Kidd was told. “Twenty-eight,” Kidd said. “I wish I was 28.”
It's a big club. But time marches on, and Kidd had a front-row seat to such passage. On a historic Tuesday night downtown, when the Thunder routed Milwaukee 110-79 and Westbrook matched Oscar Robertson's NBA record of 41 triple doubles in a single season and Wilt Chamberlain's fourth-place total of 78 in a career, the opposing coach was the current bronze medalist in all-time NBA triple doubles.
