MIAMI – With less than a week until the NBA trade deadline, the first domino has fallen for the Thunder.
On Friday, the Thunder traded Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and cash considerations to Chicago for a 2020 protected second-round pick. The trade was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
What does move does immediately is clip Luwawu-Cabarrot’s $1.5 million salary off the books and open another roster spot for additional trade flexibility before the Feb. 7 trade deadline.
With Luwawu-Cabarrot in Chicago, the Thunder now has 13 guaranteed contracts on its roster, two under the NBA’s active roster limit (two-way players such as Deonte Burton and Donte Grantham do not count as guaranteed contracts).
