Thunder opts for roster flexibility by waiving Semaj Christon, Isaiah Canaan

Preseason cuts aren’t seismic summer trades, but the Thunder made moves that could have major roster impact.

The Thunder made its second round of cuts Saturday, waiving guards Semaj Christon and Isaiah Canaan. If Christon wasn’t waived by Sunday, his $1.3 million salary for 2017 would have been guaranteed. Canaan was a camp invite on a non-guaranteed deal.

More importantly for the Thunder, waiving Christon and Canaan brings the roster to 14 guaranteed contracts before the league season officially starts on Tuesday. All 30 teams had to get to 15 contracts or fewer before the start of the regular season.
