Cameron Payne was expected to play a key role on this Oklahoma City Thunder team but that got derailed over the summer when GM Sam Presti announced that Payne had undergone surgery to repair a jones fracture similar to what Kevin Durant had 2 years earlier (cosmic coincidence: KD’s jones fracture was the sole reason OKC was even able to draft Payne in the lottery after the season was over). Payne however suffered another setback when he fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot on Sep. 27 during OKC’s annual Blue-White scrimmage. Given the seriousness that OKC should be treating these kinds of foot injuries, it is surprising that Payne will apparently not be undergoing surgery to repair this second injury.
