On a night Russell Westbrook was being honored, he wanted to put the focus elsewhere.
That was the motivation, the Thunder guard said Friday, for an Oklahoma Hall of Fame induction speech on Thursday night in which he stressed the importance of inclusiveness and community service.
“It’s about the young kids,” Westbrook said at Friday’s Thunder shootaround. “ It’s more important to them and the people who look up to me – look up to what I do, what I believe in – to understand the importance of being able to be together, respecting each other’s race or their beliefs, where they’re from, all the different things of that nature.
