OKC Thunder: Rebranding rumors 'simply not true' says Thunder; no plan to redesign logo

Thunder fans wanting a new logo are going to be left wanting, according to the team.

In an email to The Oklahoman on Friday, Thunder senior vice president for sales and marketing Brian Byrnes said the team's current involvement with Nike is "limited to transitioning our current uniform portfolio from Adidas to Nike" and not rebranding. Nike will become the NBA's official apparel supplier in 2017.

Byrnes said any liberties taken to indicate that change is coming are "simply not true."

The Thunder's logo, jerseys and color scheme became a Internet buzz topic again last week when Tulsa resident Trevor Morse posted his own rebranding project, complete with a new color scheme ("oil, gold, wheat, and cotton"), and the integration of more Oklahoma-centric symbolism into the logo ("a feather, hinting at the Osage shield that can be found on the Oklahoma state flag" and "the Skydance Bridge, an iconic Oklahoma City landmark, is used to indicate that the Thunder is located in OKC").
