Sometimes Mitch McGary showed flashes.
There was the 20-point game at Portland in his rookie season, and the time he had 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Clippers. There were nights when the burly 6-foot-10 forward showed glimpses of the promise he'd presented at Michigan.
There were too few of them, though, and too many distractions off the court, and on Monday the Thunder waived McGary after two seasons and 52 games, with a year remaining on his contract.
It was a move that seemed almost inevitable after an offseason in which McGary earned two suspensions for violating the NBA's anti-drug program and a preseason in which he didn't play a game.
