NBA 2020-21 season: How Dec. 22 start date affects OKC Thunder

The Thunder has been in a relatively steady holding pattern since its Game 7 loss to the Rockets more than two months ago, but the next six weeks should unfold with a rush of moves in Oklahoma City and around the NBA.

The National Basketball Players Association announced Thursday that it tentatively approved plans for a Dec. 22 start to the season, which will consist of a shortened slate of 72 games.

Details are still being negotiated, but the trade moratorium is expected to be lifted days prior to the Nov. 18 NBA Draft. Free agency will begin soon after the draft, and training camp is set to open Dec.
