Gaylord reopens to traffic in downtown Oklahoma City

Good news for downtown commuters and Thunder basketball fans.

E.K. Gaylord Boulevard in downtown Oklahoma City reopened in time for the Oklahoma City Thunder's NBA season-opener on Wednesday.

A major route into and out of downtown, Gaylord had been closed near Chesapeake Energy Arena for six months for work related to the new Oklahoma City Boulevard.

The street carries an average of 4,500 to 6,000 vehicles daily into and out of downtown, said Lisa Salim, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

The speed limit remains reduced to 35 mph along E.K. Gaylord due to the ongoing nearby work.
