The United States’ matchup against Japan was always expected to be its easiest in the first round of the FIBA World Cup, but Team USA dominated defensively in a 98-45 won over Japan Thursday.
The Americans head into the second round undefeated through three games. First-round points carry over into the next round of group play.
The United States allowed just 31 points through the first three quarters Thursday, holding Japan to single digits in the first and third periods.
On offense, Celtics guard Jaylen Brown paced Team USA with 20 points off the bench.
