The NBA season will be suspended for at least 30 days, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced Thursday.
"We made this decision to safeguard the health and well-being of fans, players, everyone connected to our game and the general public," Silver said in a letter addressed to NBA fans.
The decision to pause NBA play came after Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by a novel corona virus, just before tip-off of the Thunder's scheduled home game against the Jazz Wednesday. The game was postponed, and Jazz players and staff were tested for COVID-19 before leaving Chesapeake Energy Arena.
