Several reports have indicated that former Alabama basketball coach and Florida basketball assistant Anthony Grant will follow Billy Donovan to the Oklahoma City Thunder to work as an assistant on Donovan's first NBA coaching staff.
What exactly does Grant bring to the table for Donovan and the team?
"It's the trust factor. Billy Donovan wants to bring in a guy (he trusts)," The Oklahoman's Anthony Slater said in his Thunder Update video (via the Tulsa World). "He doesn't know the NBA, and you worry about that in assistants. But (he) needs an assistant that knows him, that's been there with him, that's been through the fire. It may go beyond Anthony Grant. Maybe a guy like John Pelphrey will follow too. But Anthony Grant seems to be of his most trusted humans on the planet."
Grant worked as an assistant under Donovan from 1996-2006 before stints as the head coach at VCU (2006-09) and Alabama (2009-2015). Grant came back to the Gators this March after being fired by the Tide, and it appears he'll make another move to OKC in the very near future.
