Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Joe Burrow announced his plans to transfer from the school earlier today, making him one of the most desirable players on the open market. Burrow graduated from Ohio State last weekend, making him eligible to play right away for a new school as a graduate transfer. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Where could he end up? Here are his five most likely destinations:
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State's quarterback situation is wide open as they try to replace Mason Rudolph and Burrow would likely be the favorite to win the job should he choose to take his talents to Stillwater. That opportunity for immediate playing time is why the Cowboys are on the list.
UCLA Bruins
Former Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight has already transferred to UCLA and is expected to be their starting quarterback, but Burrow is a better fit for new head coach Chip Kelly's offense because of his rushing ability. He wouldn't be the sure-fire starter for the Bruins, but Kelly's offense would give him a great chance for success.
Florida Gators
We all know how much of a mess Florida's quarterback situation is, and Feliepe Franks - who struggled massively at times this year - is the only one of last year's three-man depth chart that is back. New head coach Dan Mullen is under pressure to win immediately in Gainesville, and that desire to win now could have him turn to a veteran like Burrow.
LSU Tigers
When was the last time LSU had a quarterback they could rely on? While they have an ongoing battle between Myles Brennan, Justin McMillan, and Lowell Narcisse, Burrow would immediately enter the fray as the favorite to win the job if he can get their playbook down quickly.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Burrow would be a great fit in new head coach Scott Frost's offense and Nebraska is planning to pursue a grad transfer. They have plenty of questions at the quarterback position and, if they're going to get to the top of the Big Ten West, they're going to need a quarterback they can rely on. The only question is if the Buckeyes will allow it.
