After Ohio State scored 23 points against Indiana and 35 against Youngstown State, the Buckeyes scored 42 points in the first half and led Western Kentucky 42-10 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Kyle McCord completed 13 of 15 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Buckeyes. Marvin Harrison Jr. hauled in the first score, a career-long 75-yard touchdown catch, while Emeka Egbuka recorded the latter two scores from 15 and 14 yards out. At the same time, TreVeyon Henderson and Chip Trayanum powered Ohio State's run game, with Henderson recording 66 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and Trayanum collecting 51 yards and one score on four carries.
