Ellie Andrews was supposed to spend a leisurely weekend with family on the shores of Lake Erie.
The precocious 13-year-old from Dublin, however, dramatically altered her parents’ itinerary by earning an unexpected trip to Omaha, Nebraska. The eighth-grader will still be surrounded by water and family, but also have the eyes of the swimming nation on her.

Andrews qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100-meter breaststroke last Sunday at a meet in Geneva, Ohio. Her time of 1 minute, 11.40 seconds eclipsed the trials standard of 1:11.
