A valiant effort to upset No. 1 UCLA fell short for Ohio State women’s basketball on Wednesday night.
The eighth-ranked Buckeyes kept the game close for three quarters, but the unbeaten Bruins pulled away in the fourth quarter to hand Ohio State a 65-52 loss for its second defeat of the year.
Ohio State’s defense made life difficult for the Bruins, forcing 23 turnovers, but the Buckeyes’ upset bid was doomed by missed shots as they made a season-low 29% (20-of-68) of their field goal attempts at Pauley Pavilion.
Buckeye freshman Jaloni Cambridge (21 points, eight rebounds, six assists) had an standout showing in defeat, but UCLA star Lauren Betts led the Bruins to victory with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
