50 years ago Saturday, on July 20, 1969, Wapakoneta's Neil Armstrong, along with Apollo 11 crewmate Buzz Aldrin, landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on the Moon. At 02:56:15 UTC, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the Moon, famously saying:
“That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.”
In doing so, Armstrong claimed the celestial body that had so captivated mankind for centuries for the state of Ohio. That's right! Ohio doesn't end at Lake Erie or the Ohio River. No, Ohio ends 238,900 miles from Earth on the dark side of the Moon.
