Ryan Day is a preseason nominee for a national coach of the year award.
Day is one of 21 coaches on the preseason watch list for the Dodd Trophy, which was announced Monday by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation.
The Dodd Trophy “celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd's coaching philosophy.”
Day is one of four Big Ten coaches on the watch list along with Penn State’s James Franklin, Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz and USC’s Lincoln Riley.
