As Pete Johnson watched Ohio State dismantle Virginia Tech’s defense early in Monday night’s game, the former Buckeyes fullback marveled at the embarrassment of riches available to coach Urban Meyer.
A diamond in Braxton Miller. A ruby in Ezekiel Elliott. A chunk of platinum in Cardale Jones, not to mention other assorted gems and precious metals in J.T. Barrett, Nick Vannett and Michael Thomas.
It reminded Johnson of his own playing days in the mid-1970s, when Ohio State’s talent cup was overflowing with Archie Griffin, Cornelius Green and big No. 33 himself.
It also reminded him of the delicate balance that must be maintained when a team has so many playmakers but only so many plays with which to use them.
