Recruits Have Big Weekend On the Mats, Giving Fans a Glimpse Into the Future

Ohio State's wrestling team had a solid weekend, capped off by a dominant dual-meet victory over Indiana with just six starters on the mats. Future Buckeyes were in action as well, with four big-time commitments in marquee meets across the country.

Sammy Sasso, Malik Heinselman, Rocky Jordan and Gavin Hoffman are headliners of Coach Tom Ryan's exceptional 2018 class, and each acquitted themselves quite well. A quick breakdown:

  • Sasso, the nation's top prospect at 149 pounds, won the 152-pound class at the Cumberland Valley Kickoff Classic, pinning his opponent at 3:50;
  • Heinselman, a Top 40 prospect overall, dropped a close decision in overtime to a Top 10 opponent at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman tournament;
  • Jordan, the third brother in the Jordan dynasty, was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Ironman, pinning his opponent in the waning seconds of the match to seal the 170-pound class; and,
  • Hoffman, likewise, earned Outstanding Wrestler honors at the Top Hat Wrestling Tournament with a 22-7 tech fall in the final match at 195 pounds.
