It took all of five plays into the 2019 season for Justin Fields to show what he’s capable of:
His 51-yard touchdown run electrified Ohio Stadium, shooting whatever high expectations we already had for him to the moon. Then he followed that up by accounting for three more touchdowns on Ohio State’s next three possessions.
Fields ended his first career start with five total touchdowns, almost 10 yards per passing attempt, 61 yards rushing, and enough reasons to think Ryan Day has his next superstar quarterback. While the Buckeyes’ scoring lull in the second and third quarters leaves Fields and the offense with plenty of room for improvement, that’s a hell of a debut to build on.
