There are a few names that Thad Matta holds in rare air from his time at Ohio State. The mention of Aaron Craft, Jared Sullinger, Evan Turner, Je’Kel Foster or most of his first team will draw a smile, a nod and a wistful look in his eyes.
David Lighty is right up there with any of them, but when Matta invoked his name last week it wasn’t for the nostalgia.
When the Buckeyes lost Keita Bates-Diop for the season just one game into Big Ten play due to a stress fracture in his left shin, it evoked the memory of when Lighty suffered a broken foot seven games into the 2008-09 season and missed the rest.
