Opposite sideline | Lack of depth catches up with Notre Dame

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Already missing several key defenders because of injury or suspension, things got worse for Notre Dame from the start of the Fiesta Bowl on Friday. The Fighting Irish couldn’t stop Ohio State on the Buckeyes’ first two possessions, setting a theme for the game, and they lost star linebacker Jaylon Smith and backup Te’von Coney to injuries in the first half.

Notre Dame, which came in allowing 166.5 rushing yards per game, gave up 285 to the Buckeyes. The Irish finished with 405 yards of total offense but didn’t have the playmakers or depth to keep up with the Buckeyes.
