COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The slight smile on Thad Matta's face was noticeable only because it seemed so misplaced after Ohio State's 19-point loss to Michigan State on Tuesday night.
But Matta couldn't help it.
The smile crept out from the corner of his mouth as he praised the development of Spartans guard Denzel Valentine and appreciated it as only a coach could. His progress from inconsistent freshman to senior superstar was on display Tuesday night, and even in defeat Matta had to admire it.
This wasn't an angry Matta. No, not even after an 81-62 loss.
