EAST LANSING, Mich. — Destiny, in the form of an expected Big Ten championship, slipped out the back door on Ohio State on Saturday after a 107-105 triple-overtime loss at Michigan State.
The fifth-ranked Buckeyes (23-6, 15-3) needed to at least split their final two conference road games to secure the program’s first regular-season title since 2010.
Instead, they lost 90-88 in overtime at Minnesota on Wednesday and never found a way to escape repeated left hooks from the 20th-ranked Spartans (22-7, 13-5) in a 55-minute slugfest.
Kelsey Mitchell set an Ohio State record with 48 points, but she missed two three-point attempts in the final 20 seconds of the third overtime.
