While the moment felt sweet to the Ohio State women’s basketball players and coaches, the celebration had the shelf life of lighted candles atop a birthday cake surrounded by two dozen hungry preschoolers.
The Buckeyes had just completed a two-game sweep of defending Big Ten champion Maryland with a 94-86 victory on Monday night in Value City Arena and taken over first place in the conference.
The jubilation lasted only “the rest of that night,” sophomore guard Asia Doss said before a Wednesday practice. “Today, it’s over.”
Even so, the victory signified something more to Doss and the rest of the Buckeyes (19-4, 11-1), who had lost twice to the Terrapins last season.
