Earle Bruce’s football playing career at Ohio State ended before it really began because of a knee injury. But the school’s marching band made him feel like he belonged here anyway.
“I never saw the band before,” Bruce said, recalling his start at Ohio State. “The band came on the field and I threw up my hands and said, ‘I’m a Buckeye.’ That was 1949.
“Then I finally got to meet the band and when I started dealing with them, they made me an honorary member of the band.”
