Urban Meyer once entered a season with nothing expected from his team.
Fifteen years ago, Meyer was a rookie head coach at Bowling Green, today’s season-opening opponent for his Ohio State Buckeyes.
Meyer was wistfully nostalgic when recounting his humble start with the Falcons. He told of picking up a preseason magazine in 2001 and seeing his team ranked last among all Division I teams. He smiled as he told the story of his program being so financially strapped that players showed up for workouts wearing Budweiser T-shirts.
His early workouts were so grueling that many players quit, leaving Bowling Green with fewer than 60 players for their opener at heavily favored Missouri.
