Ohio State was one out from tossing a no-hitter, but host Maryland rallied for a 2-1 victory in 10 innings Friday night to sweep a Big Ten baseball doubleheader. The Terrapins won the first game 3-0.
Ohio State starter John Havird didn’t surrender a hit through eight innings, but Madison Nickens hit to open the ninth. Michael Horejsei relieved and induced a flyout. Yianni Pavlopoulos (2-2) relieved Horejsei and got a groundout that moved Nickens to second. Pavlopoulos struck out Nick Cieri, but a wild pitch on the third strike allowed Cieri to reach and move Nickens to third.
